With Kitty’s passing, we highly debated whether or not taking this trip would be a good idea. My main reluctance was that we would be riding, half-heartedly enjoying ourselves while still thinking about Kitty’s sudden departure and the hole that it left in our hearts. I know that people take trips to escape pain — I have done this myself — and I didn’t want this trip to be one of those. On the other hand, we need a distraction since everything in our house reminds us of him. It was the latter of the reasoning that made us decide that taking the trip would be a good idea. Veggievents is an idea that we had as a way to connect people with similar values while doing the things that they love. Everyone has their own personal reasons why they want to tackle their first 5k or bike tour — many times to rebuild something in their lives that they lost — and we are no different. Lauren and I need an adventure to help us cope with our loss.
Over the next two weeks, we will be on our bicycles discovering all that the Olympic Peninsula has to offer. Although we are mostly credit card touring, i.e. staying in hotels and Air BnBs, it is still an adventure nonetheless. Our past few tours have been shorter, usually a week or less, so this one will certainly be worthy of documenting. When we return, we will start planning our first event, with the hopes of holding it this fall. We’d like you to enjoy this journey with us and be inspired, as exploring the world by bike is not reserved only for certain people. Adventure is available to those who want to make it happen.
